So why book me?

It can be hard choosing a photographer (especially a newborn photographer) when you’ve never done it before! Newborn photography is very much like wedding photography in that you cannot go back and re-do your little one’s first few weeks. They change so quickly and it is so hard to remember to soak in those little details when you are sleep deprived and busy feeding and changing nappies.

Family photography has a little less pressure but you still want someone to invest in that can make you look amazing but also bring out your own family’s unique ‘feel’.

So here are the reasons that my beautiful clients have booked ME!

The Images

Every newborn photographer has their own style, and we aren’t all able to produce every image you see you may have seen. A good newborn photographer will be upfront about what poses they are competent in and also what poses they will or won’t do.

You have probably noticed I keep most of my babies wrapped during the session, and this is for a few reasons but mainly that it’s much more comfortable for the baby which means they and you as parents don’t have a stressed out experience, and it also gets you far more variety with setups. Wrapped babies feel secure and mostly stay asleep throughout the session as they are warm and cosy. I almost always do a few outfit or naked with wrap poses at the end of the session if baby is still up to it though.

I love photographing their beautiful faces up close, using tasteful props and lots of warmth and texture. That’s my style.

With families, I do a mix of posed and candid, beautiful greens or beach sessions.

Safety and Experience

It’s not something everyone thinks of straight away, but safety should be a big concern when choosing a newborn photographer. Many of the poses you see online are composites (a merging of two images together), or are simply edited to appear different to the reality in in which they were taken. Unfortunately many amateur photographers don’t realise this and may attempt poses they think they know how to do.

You are going to be handing me your little one and I will be holding them, handling them, posing them, and comforting them for a few hours in their first two weeks of life, so it’s so important I know what I’m doing and how to do it safely.

Because of this, I have made sure I have done whatever possible to remain up to date with the safety aspects of newborn photography.

I have -

- become qualified with the Academy of Newborn Photography, a course that covers the perinatal and neonatal period, birth injuries, newborn physiology and Work health and safety policies and how they all relate to newborn photography.

- Completed my First AID Certificate and Infant CPR course.

- Implemented WHS procedures in the studio such as becoming aware of any allergies clients may have, and sanitising the studio between babies

I have also been in business for SEVEN years now! This is my full time job, not a hobby - so you can be rest assured that I pour a lot of energy and love into it.

The Experience

I think it’s really important you have your session with someone you feel comfortable with. It’s a really vulnerable time for parents during a newborn session so you should choose an environment and person that you are confident in. Believe me when I say I know it can actually be quite hard handing over your brand new baby to me, so it’s a job I really take seriously.

One of the ways I make this easier on my clients is to provide them with information and on email. Reality is, everyone is so busy these days and so having that information emailed to you and able to be pulled up when you have time and energy to read it is so important.
