Newborn Photos Geelong | Baby Harry

Sweet little baby Harry was in my studios a few weeks ago for his newborn session, along with his big bro.
We stuck to some beautiful neutral colours for Harry’s session, which suited his cute little self!  I love how curled up he was in his first wrap, like a little bundle.

Enjoy Harry’s beautiful images :)

Baby Paxton | Baby Photos in Ocean Grove

A couple of years ago big brother Ryder came in as a newborn and now here he is back with mum, dad and his new baby sister Paxton!
It’s always so cool when my clients come back, and I’m so lucky that it happens all the time and I do get to see the kids grow from a tiny newborn to a rambunctious toddler!

Enjoy baby Paxton’s beautiful session.

Baby William | Newborn Photographer Geelong

Baby William came in to see me a few weeks ago for his newborn photography session  and boy – let’s just say I will never forget this little poop monster!    Sometimes newborn sessions really are filled with the funniest moments, and right at the end, after a record amount of poop, little William almost exploded onto his poor mum!  I wish I had gotten the photo!
Big sister Mackenzie was also an absolute superstar and how gorgeous do they look together?

Enjoy xx

Newborn Photography Geelong | Baby Reef

I don’t need to say too much about this session, the photos really do speak for themselves.
Little Reef came in to see me a few weeks earlier than expected.  He was tiny and perfect as all babies are, and slept like a total dream for me through the whole session (and not all babies do this part!).

The only sign he was ever annoyed at me for having to move him while he slept was a tiny little frown that would appear on his face after every intrusion.  He would sink back into his happy place after just a few moments.

Newborn Photography sometimes involves a lot of waiting around, for babies to settle and to feed, so it’s a great time to get to know the bubba’s parents.  Reef is his mummy’s first, so we got to talking about how momentous having a baby truly is.  No matter how many times you are told while pregnant and before that your life will change, it’s amazing when you realise how much it really does!  It is the biggest “expected” shock of your life.

I love shooting newborns because you get to be a brief part of this magical time in someone’s life.    Even if just for a little bit.    Sure it’s damn hard – you are a tired,  stressed, worried about sleep and feeding and all kinds of things.  But who didn’t lay there for hours watching the myriad of funny little faces and expressions on their sleeping baby?    Who didn’t complain about having to get up to feed in the middle of the night, but secretly love those quiet moments where it really does feel like it is only the two of you in the whole world.

It really is an honour being the one to capture each baby’s beginnings :)

Here is Reef!

Baby Photos Ocean Grove | Little Miss Ruby

Ruby’s parents brought their sweet little bubs in for her baby photos, which made tiny Ruby was my first adorable client for 2015! She was not a huge fan of sleep, but with such a pretty little face and dainty features, she didn’t have to be!

Natural Newborn Photography in Ocean Grove | Dougie's Family

I’ve just spent the weekend with my stepdaughter’s school project – a ‘newborn’ doll that is programmed to act and respond like a newborn, requiring intermittent burping, feeding, and changing.   With my own son almost 3 years old, it’s been 3 years since I got to enjoy those first few weeks of life with a new baby and the doll definitely made me think back to those times.     Those first few weeks are such a strange blend of feelings – of utter chaos and quiet routine,  days that don’t have any discernible beginning or end and the endless cycle of feeds, nappy changes, baths, cuddles, and burps!
For those of you who take the time to schedule a traditional newborn session with a photographer, you get a beautiful record of just how small and sweet your baby was for a few short weeks, but what about the other stuff, the real day to day stuff that seems so mundane at the time but you will wish you could remember?

So that’s what we did with little Dougie & his family.  We captured how much of a water baby he was in the bath,  his feeding times with mum,  how much he disliked getting dressed out of the bath,  big sister Amelie’s smiles, tantrums and playtime with dad, and just a simple day in the life of the family.

Hope you guys loved your photos, I’m delivering them tomorrow :)

Enjoy xx

Geelong Newborn Portrait Photographer | Tillie & big sister Chloe

One of the best things about being a family photographer is having past clients come back to you with a new baby bump or a new baby!  All of our families change and grow so much when they are young, it’s great to be able to capture each milestone.
I posted about little Chloe not too long ago (and her gorgeous outfit!), and now Chloe is a big sister!  Tillie was a bit older than the usual ‘newborn’, but she gave us lots of lovely sleepy time as you’ll see, as well as those sweet little awake shots.

I’m not a huge ‘prop’ user when it comes to newborns, I love my newborn sessions to be natural and simple, because you don’t need much to show how peaceful, new, and beautiful they are.    I do enjoy using what ‘props’ bubs (and mum)  already has, so that years from now when you look back at the portraits, you may still own the little hat, or the blankie, or whatever else you choose to include.  For me it’s a more personal, meaningful way of creating a newborn session.

Anyway here is Tillie and big sis Chloe :)
